Decorating 101, Issue #0016 --Try This Cheap Wall Decor Idea! August 21, 2008 |
Hi There,Create Your Own Cheap Wall DecorCheap wall décor doesn’t have to mean 1970’s paint by numbers or hand-me-downs from Grandma. You just need a fresh way of looking at things. I like to think of it as fresh and thrifty. For starters, think three dimensionally. Your wall space becomes a lot more interesting once you move past the flat framed art. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes a simple piece is all a room needs, but some walls are difficult to please. Nothing you put up seems to “fit”. In these situations you need an idea like this. Take a look at what I did below. Here's what I did......... I found three great distressed frames at Hobby Lobby. I held them each to the wall and with a pencil drew around the inside of the frame. Then I painted the rectangles a cream color. It was easy to hang the frames with picture hangers because I could see exactly where they went by following the painted rectangles. Next I centered a Christmas ornament in each frame hung by a small brad. I was careful to choose ornaments that would lay flat against the wall and with designs that I would enjoy all year long, not just during the Holidays. Lastly I hung three unique hooks above each frame for extra interest. I chose three shiny bulbs in the accent colors of my room and tied one onto each of the hooks with a piece of string. Ribbon would look nice too. Now, I have created interest with multiple layers which stimulates the onlooker to say, “How’d she do that?” I found all of these items at Hobby Lobby for around $50.00. Cheap wall décor doesn’t have to mean cheap. I prefer to translate it as thrifty with style.
