When I think of cafe interior design I imagine a quaint little bistro where the food is fantastic, but only a select few have discovered its treasures. This fact is what keeps it small in size but perfect in detail.

People come to this place to enjoy the “experience” not just the food so the décor is a very important aspect of the restaurant. The vintage French poster above gives some great cues as far as color.

Paint the walls a sunny yellow. Use black and white solids and stripes for your accent color; table cloths, chair cushions and dishes. Dishes don’t have to match. If purchasing regular white is less expensive, that’s fine. Just mix in a few bright yellow pieces for salad bowls or bread plates.

If funds allow, a black and white checker board floor is ideal.

The music must have foreign appeal. In this case find artists who sing completely or partially in French like Madeline Peyroux.

Wall décor can be as simple as several vintage posters like the one above. Creative wine storage can also act as wall décor. There are so many different types from free standing to pieces that attach to the wall. There’s no reason why food and drink can’t serve double duty. A more modern idea for wall décor is to hire a photographer to snap photos on a busy night. Take the best ones, frame and hang in a large group on the wall with lettering above that says “Nos Amis” which means “our friends” in French.

Potted flowers should welcome guests at the entrance. Hand painted lettering on the glass window is a personal touch that is sure to be noticed. .

A large pendent fixture above each table creates a cozy feeling almost like an awning.

Cafe interior design is all about creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for your guests. You want them to linger and when they do, they’ll notice the details in the décor so don’t skimp when it comes to your restaurant’s interior design.
