Christmas Decorating Stairway Ideas!

Custom Search

A Christmas decorating stairway idea is very important, especially if the stairway is the focal point as you walk in your front door.

Evergreen branches tied along side the banister and handrail and secured with floral wire make for an elegant entry. Gold or silver bows make a nice finish.

However, if you’re looking for a Christmas decorating stairway idea that’s not so ordinary, try this whacky idea. Attach evergreen branches of different lengths to every other stair post. Wrap just the ends around the posts so the branches stick out as if they are really on a tree. Then hang blue Christmas decorations, silver jingle bells and white bows off the ends just like you would if you’re decorating the Christmas tree. This will for sure be a topic of conversation among your guests. Before you attempt this, be sure you have enough of a clearance between the branches and the next wall. You don’t want the irritation of the branches brushing you as you walk by.

Another unique Christmas Decorating stairway idea is to use jingle bells. First measure the length of the railing. Cut 3 pieces of fishing line to this length. String silver or gold jingle bells along each line just as if you were stringing beads. Tie off at each end. Braid the three strands together and secure with a red velvet bow. Weave the braid over and under the handrail of your stairway. This will make a cherry jingle each time someone goes up or down the stairs.

Try wrapping your stairway with metallic wrapping paper. By this I mean just the part between the banister and the rungs so you can still walk up the stairs, but you can’t see through the rungs. Use clear packing tape to secure the seams. Purchase a couple of large bows to complete the look. This offers a great chance to display all of those Christmas cards. Simply tape them to the wrapping paper.

Okay, okay, enough with the crazy ideas. Here is an simple and luxurious Christmas decorating stairway idea that you can leave up all year round. Measure the width of your stairway. Purchase a curtain rod that will fit this width, the kind that you can attach to the ceiling. Measure the length from the ceiling to the first floor. Purchase 2 sheer white panels of this length and hang. You may have to purchase the fabric depending on the length of this measurement. If this is the case, sew one pocket by folding the fabric over once at the top and hang. Use holiday tiebacks like sprigs of holly or poinsettias. Use any kind of silk flower by wrapping the stem with floral wire and looping it around to form a hook. This look creates a dreamy feel. Be forewarned. It may entice guests to wander upstairs.

When you choose a Christmas decorating stairway idea, don't be afraid to stick out a little. The lovely evergreen garland is nice, but safe.
