Bring Clamp Lights Out of the Work Room

Custom Search

Although clamp lights are often thought of as a handy light to be used in a workroom, they are also extremely handy in other rooms of the house. Not only are they useful for other purposes, but they also have a certain utilitarian charm and appeal that can blend in with other modern room decor.

Uses for Ordinary Metal Clamp Lamps

At first glance, a standard silver metallic clamp lamp might not look to be the type of light you could use in your home living space. However, with a little creativity and ingenuity, these lights can add a lot of modern style to your home. If you have a loft in your home, especially one that you use for a studio or other type of work space, adding several clamp lights is not only very useful, but can look great as well. You can install a suspended bar from the ceiling, and cluster several clamp lamps together on it, in a somewhat medusa-lamp fashion. This looks very visually interesting, and can provide a lot of light for working in just the areas where you need it most.

Clamp lamps are also a popular choice in teenagers’ bedrooms, especially when they have adopted a modern, utilitarian, or minimalist decorating scheme. These lamps can be clamped on the edges of desk hutches or wall shelves, to provide plenty of light in the room, as well as adding an edgy sort of non-conformist style. Teenagers often love an unconventional style in their rooms, so the use of clamp lamps can be a popular choice.

These stark silver lamps also look great in rooms that are decorated in a monochromatic color scheme, or especially in a room that is decorated in black and white. They also have a pleasant minimalist look when combined with modern furniture. Although they are quite bright, they have a solid shade, and are adjustable, so you can shine the light in whatever direction you find most pleasing. This can be a great way of using a clamp lamp as a spotlight for a piece of wall art or architectural feature.

Safety with Metal Clamp Lights

When decorating with an ordinary metal clamp lamp, keep in mind that these lights are exceptionally bright and the bulb and shade has a tendency to be hot. Keep these lights away from anything flammable, such as curtains, furniture, fabric surfaces and paper. Place them so that your skin or hair will not easily come into contact with the bulb.

Designer Clamp Lamps

Gone are the days when all clamp lamps look like they belong in the garage or workroom. There are now lamps that are designed to clamp to shelves or table surfaces that come in sleek designs and different colors. These types of lamps can be used effectively on the edge of a desk, or clamped to the edge of a shelf, to provide a spot of light wherever it is needed most. They can even be used to provide an accent spotlight in a room.

Specialty Clamp Lamps

There are also clamp lamps that are designed for special purposes, such as those with lighted magnifying glasses. These are especially useful for hobbies such as needle crafts or other activities that involve working with small details and objects.
