Contemporary interior design can be inspired by nature. A peacock is a great example! Peacock decor may not be the first thing you think of when you contemporary interior design, but you can learn a lot from this photograph.

Nature is really amazing when it comes to color proportion. If you use the colors above in proportion to one another, you can’t go wrong! Here’s an example. Begin with lots of plants to line the walls. Use kettles, pans, bowls, buckets or whatever creates various heights to cause additional interest. If you use this idea for patio decorating you’ll have the bonus of the outside green grass and trees to help. Now you have your base which is the dominate color in the picture, dark green.

Next in quantity is a beige color. Furniture fabric is a good spot to put this color into action. Slip covers work well if purchasing new doesn’t work into your budget. Don’t be afraid to paint old pieces if the paint is peeling or if the wood is scuffed. Rugs are another place to use this color. A large rug works the best because you want a large piece of continuous color rather than broken up pieces. Avoid pattern with this color.

Last comes the fun part, color and pattern! Shop for throw pillows with the light and dark blue colors. If you can find a patterns that mix these colors all the better! It would be well worth the effort to search for one or two shiny blue pillows to really bring out the peacock décor look. Add more spots of these these colors in other accessories like lamps, wall art and photo frames.

Now stand back and examine. Your colors should follow these percentages. Is 60% of the color in the room dark green? How about 30% beige? Now take a look at your two accent colors dark and light blue. Combined do they make up 10% of the color in your interior design colors? Super! You now have a lovely, contemporary interior design from simply observing nature!
