A Touch of Country Christmas Decor

Country Christmas decor is fun to create if you’re a do-it-yourselfer. If you’re not, that’s okay too. You’ll at least know what to look for by reading the suggestions below.

1. Popcorn strands are always a good pick for country Christmas décor. The strands are inexpensive to make involving only a bit of fishing line, needle and popcorn kernels. These yummy garlands aren’t just for the tree. Wind them around candle sticks or a ceiling hung candelabra fixture. Best yet, the fruit of your labor is doubled if you hang them from trees or bushes for the outside creatures to enjoy after the season is over.

2. Before the snow flies, take a nature walk to collect pods, seeds, pine cones. These can be tossed around a candle to make a lovely homespun centerpiece.

3. Wearing leather gloves, carefully cut stars, hearts and diamonds from thin sheets of metal you can find at your local hardware store. Pound predesigned holes through the tin with a hammer and nail. Be sure to have a block of wood behind the metal to protect the surface you’re working on. Thread a piece of ribbon through a hole and tie the two ends in a bow at the top. These make great country Christmas decor for the tree because the lights will shine through the holes.

4. Purchase a brown, rustic looking garland with red berries from a craft store. Wind the garland around a thick piece of wire that has been cut and bent to a predetermined size. Tada! A simple wreath.

5. Recycle an old shovel. What does this have to do with Christmas holiday décor you ask? Sand it down and paint it with snowmen, mittens or trees. Coat it several times with polyurethane. Tie to your porch with a big red ribbon or display inside by the fireplace. Remember primitive is the look you’re going for so don’t worry too much about your artistic skills!

6. Fill old pottery jugs with bunches of sticks and berries. If you can’t find fresh, use real sticks from outside and buy berries. Attach with a glue gun.7. Dry orange and apple slices in the oven or food dehydrator. Spray with 1 part cinnamon essential oil and 6 parts vodka (grain alcohol). Orange essential oil works well too. You’ve created a natural pot pourri plus the fruit will fill the kitchen with a wonderful aroma while it dries! Country Christmas Decor is quite attractive and especially budget friendly because most items are nature and winter related and can be left up all winter long.
