I'll be moving to a bachelor apartment sometime next month, and i was wondering how to decorate it?
Why decorate you ask? Well besides the obvious desire to create an impression on the opposite sex, decorating a bachelor pad can help you to better relax when you get home. In fact, it’s not really about decorating at all. It’s about doing everything possible to make yourself feel welcome in your own home. Did you know that all those pizza boxes and beer cans don’t really make your life easier? Sure they did while you were gorging yourself in front of the boob tube last night, but who has to deal with it now? Yup, you guessed it! You! Disorganization can actually hinder your ambition level. While ambition may not be your top priority when at home it spiders out into every area of your life whether you like it or not. When everything has a place and everything is in its place, you free up brain cells to fully enjoy what your paycheck pays for! Below are some quick and easy ideas to make your living space more comfortable and will help make decorating a bachelor pad easier. 1. My very favorite! Use a peel and stick window treatment such as “artscape” The designs come in rolls that you can just cut to size, peel off and stick onto the window. You can easily remove by wetting them down and pulling off. You can’t see through them so they work in place of curtains. They leave no sticky residue which is a great solution for apartment decorating. You can purchase many different designs at Home Depot. Can’t get any easier than this! 2. Paint the walls! While you’re at it, paint the ceiling too. BIG + because it saves the time you would normally spend cutting in. Paint color combination? Beige is a starting point. Anything but white will make it feel more like home. When choosing fabric for curtains or bedding use masculine patterns and colors. Pay special attention to the designs used in men’s clothing. Plaids, stripes, paisley in colors of navy, black, brown, dark greens and dark reds are all considered masculine. Below is an example of a contemporary paint color combination. The tan in the middle is a good wall color. The dark brown and red make good accent colors for pillows or rugs.

3. To maximize space and add a closet, add particle board book cases along the wall. Hang a curtain rod and curtains from the ceiling in front of the bookcases to close it off when not in use. Choose fabric that is 100% cotton or cotton and polyester mix so you can just toss into the wash when needed.4. An easy and cheap bachelor pad curtain idea is to tie about 15-20 bandanas in knots right next to each other on a curtain rod. Just let the other end hang down. When the knots are pushed up close to one another it creates the look of a one piece valance with a pointed edge. This is a great look for a kitchen window. 5. Purchase wooden benches and paint. Stack them for use as book shelves. 6. When decorating a bachelor pad, use wooden step ladders of various sizes for shelving. Take two painted ladders and put a painted plank of wood from rung to rung to use as shelving. A pair of short 2-step ladders work well for a night stand. 7. Storage drawers work great for organizing miscellaneous stuff under the bed. 8. Consider using a wall mural for spaces that lack a view or for a wall that could use some concealing. 9. Guy décor should include the basics since guys like low maintenance. Limit clutter and knick knacks. But, if you have a collection, by all means, display it! No clutter makes cleaning and decorating a bachelor pad a cinch!10. Furniture should be large scale and comfortable (you already knew that). Leather is easy to clean and masculine. 11. Choose only necessary accessories such as lamps and light fixtures with a contemporary stainless finish or a rustic look. 12. Buy a disposable camera with black and white film. Take snap shots of friends, nature, anything really. Choose your favorites and have them enlarged to 5”x7”. Frame in inexpensive black frames you can purchase at your local discount store. Arrange the collection in a group of 6 to 8 on a bedroom or living room wall. 13. Jazz up old furniture or woodwork with a
leather paint finish
