Decorating a teen girl room may be a little more difficult than if she was kid. Your little princess has likely outgrown the palace look and probably has unique ideas all her own.(Not just about decorating!) Guide her gently with these tips to create a room she'll love to live in and a room you can stand to look at.

The paint color combination below has a vibrant modern feel. Paint the walls the reddish-orange color and the trim white. Use the rich chocolate brown for furniture, rugs and beddingicon. The lime green should pop up in throw pillows or an accent color in curtains. There you have it. Easy modern elegance.

Decorating a Teen Girl Room Tips

<<>>
1. When decorating a teen girl room, decorate using stripes everywhere. Paint stripes on the walls horizontally or vertically. Think a little on the crazy side. Create a pattern of wide stripes and thin stripes each in a different color. For a more soothing look, paint wide and thin stripes in a monochromatic paint color combination. This means if your base color is say, lime green, use all the shades and tones of light and dark green on the paint chip, one for each stripe. Purchase the paint in pints or quarts rather than gallons. This saves money in the long run.

2. Cut large holes in sheer curtain panels in the color of your choice. Purchase another set to go behind it. Sew them together and hang. This works best if you use primary colors so that when the panels are hung together, the colors mix to create a new color.

3. Consider painting tired furniture a bold color that will pop against the wall color. Simple semi-gloss paint and a quick harware knob or pull change will easily give little girl furniture a teenage twist!

4. When decorating a teen girl room, display off-the-wall accessories on the wall like this cool wall hanging made of license plates.

5. Another option is to keep the paint color tame, but make the accents wild. Use animal prints to accessorize. Leopard and zebra prints work well together and are great for adding visual interest when used in rugs, pillow shams, bedskirts or throw pillows. A little print is elegant, too much becomes gaudy.

6. Paint the ceiling black for a starry night effect. Purchase glow-in-the-dark stars at a dollar store and stick tack them to the ceiling. Decorating a teen girl room can be fun if you're willing to be creative!

7. Cut out favorite heart throb photographs and favorite articles or pictures from teen magazines. Decoupage them to a piece of old furniture. This will be a source of sweet memories for your teen long after she becomes an adult.

8. Paint an entire wall with magnetic paint. I’m a huge fan of this fantastic product! This allows your teen to express herself with no nail holes! Buy or make magnets and stick to the painted wall. That’s all there is to it.

9. Teen girls love cherish photographs of friends and dare I say it, boyfriends. Why not give her a space on the wall to display them? Attach 2 eye hooks on the wall about 3 feet apart from each other. String ribbon or wire taught from one hook to the other to give a clothes line like appearance. Repeat this about one foot under the first line. Use drapery hooks or clothes pins to attach photos, postcards or notes to the line.

Let's face it. She's growing up fast. Decorating a teen girl room is easy. The two of you agreeing? Not so easy. She's definitely her own person. But, what better way to create a stronger bond between you and your daughter than by helping her create a space all her own!
