Decorating Boys Rooms When Brothers Bunk Together
Decorating boys rooms when shared by brothers can be challenging. The younger the brothers are, the easier it is to incorporate generic boy themes into the room compared to when the teenage years hit. The three themes below provide simple and quick decorating ideas for brothers who bunk together, but still want their own space. Decorating Boys Rooms With a Sports Theme Whether their passions lie in football, basketball or soccer, a sports theme room is always a hit. If both brothers enjoy the same sport, decorate the room to reflect that. Walls painted like football stadium stands, a green carpet with yard lines painted on it, and a goal post made out of PVC pipe at one end of the room would be ideal for football loving brothers. If their tastes are different, decorate one half of the room according to each interest. The soccer side of the room could feature a soccer player kicking a ball painted on the wall, soccer theme bedding and a soccer ball lamp. The baseball half of the room could have different types of bats hung strategically on the wall, a favorite team player's jersey and baseball theme bedding. The overall sports theme is evident, but each brothers' interests are validated. Decorating Boys Rooms With a Music Theme Most brothers share the same taste in music. If the boys are young, choose a child-friendly group or song as the room's inspiration. If the brothers are older it may mean being a bit more creative to tap into their taste. Just like the idea for the sports rooms, if the boys play different instruments or like different groups, separate the room into two equal sections that are decorated according to their tastes. If the brothers are both into playing instruments, like the guitar and the drums, consider creating a studio theme bedroom. Each boy's interest will be expressed with the inclusion of their instrument, but the room itself could feature a small platform for performing and spotlights or a disco ball. This will bring the brothers together while also giving them their own space in the room. Vehicles Little boys like cars and trucks. It is easy to find ready-to-hang borders, decals and bedding for automobile themes. Give each brother bedding that depicts his favorite vehicle, whether it be a dump truck or police car, to make his space uniquely his own. Decorating Boys Rooms for Preteens For older brothers, consider creating a garage or hot rod theme room. Use tall tool chests for a dresser, rear view mirrors mounted on the wall, and a wall light modeled after a streetlight for funky lighting. If there is room for additional seating in the room, search a junkyard for a rear seat from a car to be the sofa. Get the brothers involved and they are sure to design something that pleases them. Loft beds with space beneath them for a desk and dresser are ideal for sectioning off a room shared by older brothers. While providing privacy and space, loft beds also can have curtains attached to the bottom edge of the bed to create a quiet space below the bed. For younger brothers, lower bunk beds can often be found, but be sure that the children are of the recommended age for using them. There is no need to have sleepless nights worrying that one of the boys may tumble from the top bunk. Young siblings do just as well having their room divided by interest. Allow the brothers time to brainstorm ideas about how they would like their room to decorated and the newly redesigned room will be sure to be a hit.
