When searching for a decorating idea for girl rooms, take your time. Girls are wonderful, playful, imaginative creatures! There are as many room ideas for girls as there are shapes, colors, and sizes of girls! So let your imagination soar and use the suggestions below as a spring board.

1. Go Cottage Style. Paint bird houses using your accent colors. Moss green, robin egg blue and creams make a lovely color combination. Attach little blue birds to the perch. Use white furniture. Create a picket fence. Decide on dimensions. I recommend about 40 inches tall and 6 inches wide. Trace around it while on the wall. Leave a little space and trace again. Keep tracing until you have covered the surface. Then fill in the lines with white paint. When searching for a decorating idea for girl rooms remember to add that personal touch. Paint free hand vines and flowers in and around the pickets. Attach shutters on hinges to the inside of the windows instead of curtains. Stick stencil stickers on the walls of butterflies. They are a lot quicker than hand stenciling and you child can help! Use large plastic terra cotta pots to store books and toys.

2. The Beach - Decorating with tropical flowing house plants is an easy decorating idea for girl rooms. Use pastel blues, pinks and beiges from shell colors. Use starfish and sea shells to embellish lamp shades. You can glue them on or drill small holes through the shells and attach to lamp shade edge with string so they dangle. String strands of white lights above the ceiling to create a starlight effect at night. You can even add a small contained waterfall. There are some fabulous wallyou can purchase that will turn a wall of a room into an instant beach. They are very realistic not like the cheesey murals in the 70's. For cozy seating hang a hammock chair from the ceiling.

3. Usethat has an element of surprise and exploration. Trundle and bunk beds work great for this. They also make great use of space in small rooms.

4. A princesses palace is another decorating idea for girl rooms. It will likely be at the top of a little girl's list! Add a canopy net over the bed. You can purchase one or make one. To make one, buy a hoola hoop, several yards of sheer fabric, 3 pieces of ½” ribbon and one eye hook.(hardware store) Sew one end of the fabric around the hoop and down the center where the fabric meets. Then sew on sequins or pearls randomly to add sparkle. To add sparkle quickly, use spray on glitter. Next, sew one end of the ribbon onto the fabric that covers the hoola hoop. Sew in a triangular shape so that the end of each ribbon is a point on an invisible triangle. Then attach the eye hook to the ceiling. Bring each of the ends of the ribbons through the hole and tie. This works best when centered over the bed. That leaves plenty of room to drape the fabric over the the head board and footboard. Not every girl wants to be a princess, but some do so you might as well go all out. After all, she’ll only be this age once!

5. Don’t forget the dress up box! Every little girl I know loves to play dress up. Visit consignment shops to find hats, fur shawls, long gloves and costume jewelry. These would look fabulous on hooks along the wall. Who knows, maybe this could even turn into a movie star room! Add spot lights, a directors chair and a make-up table. Voila! The best decorating idea for girl rooms yet!

6.Personalize room with by hanging decorative letters on the wall, a growth chart, or by painting bible verses, a favorite poem or the meaning of the child’s name. You can easily write on walls with paint pens found at your local craft store.

7. For the teenage girl who wants to loose the stuffed animal look try a 1960s mod theme with bright colors and geometric shapes. Put colored lightbulbs in lamps. Burn incense. Use lime green and oranges in paisley patterns.

8.Another decorating idea for girl rooms is to redo the beach look to fit more of an 1980s theme. Use bright Hawaiian prints for the curtains and linens. Visit the Fabric Workroom for fabric ideas. Hang a grass skirt over the lamp shade and trim to length. Staple or glue grass skirts together to make a bed skirt. White wicker furniture adds a fresh look. hawaiian print
