Decorating Teen Rooms

Fun and Fashionable!

Decorating teen rooms should be fun! Although it may be difficult to get that GIRL or GUY teen involved, if you twist the arm hard enough your teen will enjoy creating a space all his own.(Guilt trips work too)It may even motivate him to clean his room. Uh, Well, you can always dream. Teenagers love out of the ordinary prints, patterns and anything that screams “I’m me so whatta you care!” Keep this in mind when choosing flooring, window coverings and accessories. Here are a few ideas to get you going.

1. Tie dye a white sheet setsheet set or reverse the outcome by tying a colored sheet set and then soaking it in bleach. Unique personal touches are always nice when decorating teen rooms

2. Use fabric paint for tired carpet that can't be salvaged. Tape off large squares for multiple colors.

3. Create a splatter paint finish by taping off a specified area of the wall, dipping the tips of paint brush bristles in the paint and flipping your wrist in a downward motion to splatter the paint onto the wall.

4. Frame those posters! Posters can be made to look like an exquisite piece of art. Frame musical artists, actors & actresses and movie posters and use as instant wall décor.

5. Gather your teen and a group of friends for a painted portrait. This is just a shadow portrait and requires no exceptional talent. Have the group pose against the wall to be painted. The more physically dramatic the better since faces will not be seen, only the outline. Shine a bright light directly on the subjects from the the front. This will create a shadaw on the wall. Quickly trace the outline of the shadow on the wall with a pencil. Treat the group to pizza while you trace the pencil lines with paint and fill in. You'll get the best results if you use a color that is just a couple of shades or tones away from the original wall color. A subtle look is what you're going for.

Creating a special space for your teen is very rewarding. It will draw you together to accomplish a goal. Even though the two of you may feel like pulling your hair out trying to get there, in the end it will all be worth it! Forgive me when I say, lighten up a little bit when decorating teen rooms. Your teen will thank you for it!
