Decorating With Pillows in a Teenage Girl's Room

Custom Search

Decorating with pillows is one of the easiest ways to redecorate a room. If your teenage girl is in the mood to do some redecorating, one of the quickest, easiest and least expensive projects you can do is to start decorating with pillows. Whether you purchase the pillows, sew them yourself, or make it a sewing lesson for the teen herself, the end result is sure to be successful.

Floor Pillows

There are many different types of pillows that can be used when decorating with pillows in a bedroom. Since teenage girls love to hang out together, a good pillow project can be creating a collection of floor pillows, for extra guest seating. You can either purchase several floor pillows, or make them yourself. Floor pillows should be extra large, and made from a durable fabric. If you choose to make them yourself, you can purchase a pillow form, or plan on stuffing the pillow with fiberfill. To simplify the sewing process, you might choose not to use a zipper in the pillow, and instead use Velcro to close it.

Throw Pillows

Teenage girls also love to have a big stack of throw pillows on their bed. These can be used to create a cozy spot for reading, talking on the phone, or just hanging out. Of course, a nice stack of throw pillows also makes for a good pillow fight! Throw pillows are a very easy project, without much of a need for a pattern, and can make a great first sewing project for a teen. There's just no limit to the type of pillows that can be made with some scrap fabric, perhaps some fabric pens, some stuffing and a little creativity and ingenuity. Make a wide variety of pillow shapes, such as large squares, and round tube pillows. A variety of sizes not only looks cool stacked on the bed, but your teen is sure to have a comfortable pillow for whatever her need may be. Don't forget to make one extra large "body pillow" for the ultimate in pillow comfort.

Host a Pillow Party

A "Pillow Party" is a great variation on the traditional sleepover party, and can really be a lot of fun. The next time your teen wants to have a sleepover with her friends, bring out your collection of fabric scraps, some fiberfill stuffing, and the sewing machine. Everyone will have a great time making cool pillow creations, and the room will almost get decorated by itself. An especially fun pillow project for a teenage girl's room is the creation of a "me" pillow or a "boyfriend" pillow. To make one, have the pillow model lay on the floor on an old sheet or piece of fabric that is at least as large as they are. Trace around their body, and cut out two matching pieces. Sew them together inside out, and then turn the person-shaped pillow case right side out. Then, hand it over to your teen with fabric scraps, paint pens, felt and yarn. When finished, they will have a pillow replica of either themselves or their boyfriend to add to their room decor, for a truly one-of-a-kind decorating accent.
