Denim Faux Finish Comfortable Walls

Creating this denim paint effect creates a lived in look on your walls just the same way your favorite blue jeans feel to you. A linen faux finish creates a slightly more formal result following the basic steps. Experiment with both! For additional help check out the The Paint Effects Bible which describes many ways to create faux finish. 1. Decide on 2 colors. The base coat should be a shade or two lighter than the top coat. 2. Paint the walls with the chosen base coat. 3. Mix the second color with the faux glaze as directed. Usually it is something like 4 parts glaze to 1 part paint. 4. To get the best denim faux finish results, apply the glaze in 2x2 squares with a roller, cutting in with a paint brush as you go. 5. Drag a linen finish brush horizontally back and forth twice and then once from top to bottom. Leave a wet edge to roll back into. 6. Immediately use a notched striping roller over the square to create the look of stitches on the wall. 7. Move from one corner to the next working from the top of the wall to the floor. If when you stand back to look at the results, the stitches don’t quite line up, use a small paintbrush with a dab of white paint to create stitches by hand. One more tip, if you’ve got a friend to help you create the faux finish, all the better! This can be a time consuming process although the technique is easy to master. You may decide to work opposite walls, allow to dry and then tackle the remaining walls on day two. This also keeps you from bumping into the fresh glaze that you just painted. You can create the look of fine linen by following the above steps, but leaving out step six. You’ll be very proud of yourself once you stand back to admire the results of your
