Need a Fall Decorating Idea?
Need a fall decorating idea? The air is crisp and the sky is sunny. There’s no better sound than the crunch of leaves beneath your feet as you deeply breathe the sweet tobacco smelling air. Really puts you in the mood to change your inside surroundings, doesn’t it? After all, nature does it, why shouldn’t you? The colors of fall are rather obvious. Browns, yellows, oranges and purples fill the seasonal shelving at shops and department stores. When you think of fall decorating, think of more than just colors. Think textures too. Drape a cozy blanket or two on sofas and beds. I have a fabulous fuzzy micro fleece blanket on my bed. Who needs sheets! Think smells too. Cinnamon scented candle tins fill the room with scented warmth. In a pinch you can mix 2 cups water, ¼ cinnamon and ½ cup of vegetable oil in a heat safe container and place in a 175 degree oven for several hours. It will smell like you are baking. You may want to have cookies for back up, though. The kids will think it’s a mean trick! For a quick touch of autumn, string leaves on a string to make a garland. Kids love to help with this. This fall decorating idea works best when the leaves have freshly fallen from the trees and aren’t too crispy. String the garlands outside on the patio or inside curled up around the chandelier or mantle. I used embroidery thread and a needle for this project. After stringing medium lengths of garlands, I tied them together to make one long one. This is a super quick fall decorating idea and the results are beautiful!

Another fall decorating idea is to create a nature wreath for the front door or to hang inside. Go for a walk to the park or your back yard. Collect objects like sticks, pine cones, berries, leaves, dried pods, cattails and acorns. Use floral wire and a hot glue gun to attach the objects in a pleasing pattern on a wire wreath base. Since this project will cost very little, don’t fret about trying to save it for next year. Snap a photo to remember your efforts and then toss the wreath when it starts to look tattered. You can design one next year too. Make it a tradition!Fall table centerpieces are easy to make. Fill glass jars or pitchers with your findings from the nature walk. Indian corn makes a pretty addition too. You can even break the kernels of corn off of the cob and fill the glass containers half way. The corn will keep tall items like cattails standing in the proper spot without tilting over. Another
fall decorating idea
is to have a piece of tempered glass cut to fit your table top. Sandwich pressed leaves photographs and fall magazine cutouts between the table top and the glass. This can start some great dinner conversation. The best part is you can change it with the seasons or to accommodate holiday decor, birthday parties or any special occasion. Fall is a perfect time to slow down a bit and take time to enjoy the colors and smells that enliven the senses! Any extra attention you give your home will help to prepare your spirit for the exciting season ahead.
