Top Hippie Decor and Style Ideas
Hippie decor is for you if you enjoy folk music or even psychedelic rock, lots of color, beads and braids! This is such a free style, almost anything goes. However, here a few steps in the hippy decorating direction if you find yourself at a loss for ideas. 1. Collect old guitars, even if they don’t work. You can purchase wall clamps to display them as wall art. Before displaying you may wish to paint one in a colorful paisley design or stripes. You can get some great inspiration from CD covers. 2. String Indian beaded necklaces from light fixtures and lamps. These are tiny bright colored beads. You can easily and inexpensively string your own strands by purchasing supplies at a craft or discount store. 3. The peace sign is very popular in hippie decor. If you have a lot of guts, spray paint a white peace sign in the middle of a wall as a focal point. This looks the best on a richly colored wall such as a deep burgundy pink or a dark blue. 4. Be sure to include lots of potted plants, possibly even a climbing variety that you can train to climb the wall. You can do this by training it to wrap around nails in the wall in various spots. 5. Hang a batik hippie tapestry from the ceiling or on the wall. An example of a tapestry is shown below.Batik is created by melting wax in a chosen design on fabric and then dying it in different colors. The wax repels the stain and the design is left the color of the original fabric.

6. An important part of hippie décor is not really décor at all, but it does play into the whole experience of the room. Incense burners are a must to set the right mood. 7. How can you forget tie dye? This is a fun and inexpensive activity that you can use to create your own hippie decor. Treat curtains, sheets, pillow cases and comforters. You can even use the finished fabric for a chair, couch slip cover or even a table cloth. Buy fabric dye and mix according to instructions on bottle. Grab a handful of fabric and wrap a thick rubber band around it. Place it in the dye bath to soak. Do this all over the fabric for a wild rainbow effect. 8. Buy glow in the dark in the shapes of planets and stars. Stick them to the ceilings for a funky effect at night. 9. Don’t forget the lava lamp. 10. Braided cotton or hemp rugs are also an important part of hippie decor style. 11. Buy fringe and attach it will pins on the wall at waist level. It can act as a chair rail to divide the room if you wish to paint the top half a different color than the bottom half. 12. Beaded curtains are a must! Hang between rooms, in place of curtains or anywhere you need a room divider. Your imagination is sure to run free with
