Holiday Decorating

Google

Holiday decorating is a great excuse to temporarily spruce up your surroundings. Sometimes it gets old staring at that same old dining room table. Something as simple as a scented candle with a garland of green for a Christmas decoration or a fresh vase of flowers in the spring is just enough to enliven your senses and make your day seem a little sweeter. Home holiday décor can add just that right amount of umph that breathes life into your home all throughout the year.

Holiday decorating can be described as decorating for holidays such as New Years, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It can also mean decorating according to the seasons; spring, summer, fall and winter. In the winter it’s fun to snuggle up in a bed that has been carefully prepared with flannel sheets and a fleece micro fiber blanket. Wool and velvet are excellent materials to use in the winter to just drape over sofas and beds. The spring is a perfect time to place a fresh bouquet of flowers by your bedside or even on your office desk. Sure, why not send yourself a fragrant bunch! Something about flowers just makes me want to take a deep breath and smile! In the winter I like my home to smell extra good, like I’ve been baking all day long. I simmer cinnamon, vegetable oil and water in a glass Pyrex dish in the over for hours at a time. It fills the whole house with a delicious warm smell. It’s just what I want to come home to after hours of fighting crowds at the mall.

You can also carry your seasonal and holiday decorating ideas outside to use as outdoor holiday decor. A friend of mine recently gave me a creative little tip on decorating pumpkins. She used Mr. Potato Head pieces to make funny faces on her pumpkins. The result was a hilarious family of pumpkin faces sitting on her doorstep. Even better than carving because they won’t rot!

Whatever you decide to do when holiday decorating indoors or out, be sure to do it out of the desire to make your home and spaces more livable. Don’t feel pressured. If you try to decorate under pressure you may fall prey to something you wished you wouldn’t have bought say, a choir of felt penguins that wiggle their bottoms and sing jingle bells!
