A Home Decorating Party

Spring is a perfect season for a home decorating party. If you’ve never had one, you’re in for a fun surprise!

First you’ll need to compile a list of friends to invite. Invite individuals from your workplace, church or neighbors. The longer your list, the better!

Give instructions for each guest to bring one used home décor item that they no longer use. Phrase your invite in a kind way, yet so it is understood that items must be in a like new condition and not completely outdated. Assign each person a consecutive number from 1 on up by slipping a piece of colored paper into the invitation. Don’t forget to give yourself a number! Be sure to include instructions to bring the piece of paper with them when they come to the home decorating party.

If the weather permits, sit outside in a circle of lawn chairs with several large tables set up in the middle for the exchange. As each guest arrives, take his/her exchange to the tables. The more anonymous the gifts, the better! Be sure to serve refreshments! Finger foods are a good choice for a weekend afternoon gathering around 2:00. Lively music is a must!

The person with the #1 on the colored slip of paper goes first. She chooses the item of her choice from the middle of the pile. Then the play passes to slip #2. He may either steal the item from player one or chose his own from the pile. The game continues according to number until all players have had a turn and there are no more items in the center. Each guest may choose to steal or pick a new item. Items may only be stolen 2 times. This prevents an endless home decorating game.

This home decorating party is so entertaining! You don’t have to do much to prepare and lively conversation is sure to come bubbling up without prompting.
