Try a Home Interior Design Idea for a Bathroom

Home » Decorating Rooms» Home Interior Design Ideas for a Bathroom

A good home interior design idea for a bathroom is kind of hard to find. Bathrooms seem to be the most neglected part of the home when it comes to home decorating. Large or small, powder rooms should be a place of rest and relaxation.

You’ll want to start with paint color first. If your bathroom has a window, you may want to use a light yellow to help reflect light. If you have no natural light in your bathroom, think about using a cool color such as blue or green because cool colors push the walls away and make a room appear larger. Shades of creams and whites can be nice too. They lend to the fresh squeaky clean feeling you want a bathroom to have. However, if you paint the walls white, make sure you accessorize in white and creams too. You want the results to like you are going for the white monochromatic look not like you are just not very creative and had trouble choosing paint color.

A monochromatic color scheme is a really good home interior design idea especially if you have a dated tub, toilet or tiles. If this is the case, choose several shades of that color. Paint chips are an easy way to do this. For example, if you have to deal with a harvest gold tub and tile, find a shade of gold to paint the walls. Use variations of the color gold for your linens, rugs and shower curtain. Use colors directly next to or directly across yellow on the color wheel as accents. Examples of colors of colors next to yellow are oranges and yellow-greens. An example of a contrasting color is lavender. Contrasting colors are directly across the color wheel from your primary color. How do you use these as accent colors? It’s pretty simple. Look for wall art, linens, a shower curtain and rugs with most of the color being gold or yellowish. The accent color should show up in the design or pattern just slightly. A 70% to 30% ratio is a good rule to follow.

If you’re anxious to use an unusual home interior design idea, try decoupage. Instead of providing reading material by the commode, put in on the walls! Tear out pages of fashion magazines with brightly colored photographs and celebs. Tear each edge so it’s rough. It pastes better this way. Then use a solution like Hodge Podge to stick the pages randomly all over the wall. You’ll want to decide ahead of time if you want to cover one wall, all walls or half way down the wall. The bigger the area covered, the more dramatic the effect! To save time you may want to draw a line horizontally around the room. Paint the bottom half a deep burgundy red and the other top half perform the magic of decoupage!

Another home interior design idea for a bathroom is to change the drawer and cabinet pulls and the towel bars and bathroom tissue holder. You’ll be surprised how changing all or a few of these can turn the mood of the whole room.

You may also want to consider painting the vanity too. A faux finish is a good way to accomplish a shabby chic look. This is a great home interior design idea if you like the relaxed lived-in decorating style. Paint the walls a light pink. Keep the fixtures white. Find large wicker-type baskets that will hold towels and wash clothes. Spray paint them white. Hang them from decorative plant hangers that have been securely attached to the wall. You can find these hangers in the garden center of your local home improvement store. Make sure that the hangers hang far enough off the wall to accommodate the basket size. Baskets with a straight side work best because they fit against the wall the best.

The best home interior design idea is the one you feel proud to display, so go ahead and take some risks!
