Italian Interior Design
The key to Italian interior design is simplistic color and rich textiles. The excitement from this type of style comes from intricate patterns and the texture of details. For example, use a simple color combination no more than three colors. Use 2 neutrals as part of the color scheme. A neutral color could be a dark chocolate that you can consistently incorporate when you add wood, iron and leather into the room. Keep your eye on the lookout for Italian glass beads. They can be great inspiration for color. Handmade pieces like the pillow below can act as centerpieces. The detail is incredible and will lend to that cozy interior design look.
One piece of furniture like the one you see below in a well seen spot will bring other pieces together to create a cohesive Italian look. You don’t really need to replace each piece of furniture you already have. Just make sure your look keeps within the bounds of the colors you’ve chosen. If your furniture does need a makeover, try a slip cover. If the color of wood is the problem, stain it. You can purchase a stain from Minwax that brushes right over old finish. No sanding or stripping required.
This wreath is a beautiful example of how Italian design brings all the senses to life. Instead of simply concentrating on what your eyes see, create balance between all of the senses. Think texture which is important for touch. Think fragrant herbs such as are in this wreath to satisfy your sense of smell.
