Little workable space

There are bookshelves on each side of the fireplace, no where else to put TV except mantel in order to have room for furniture and a good view. Carpet color (hunter green) is hard to decorate with - I would like to paint and I'm into earth-tone colors. No a very bright room unless front door is open so I use valances instead of curtains.

The picture is from a move in - furniture has chocolate slip covers and the valances are gold-ish.
