Log Home Interior Design Inspired by the Garden

Log home interior design makes me think of the 1800’s when color was treasured and hard to come by. Summer fruits and vegetables provided a refreshing splash of vibrance in otherwise dreary surroundings.

The interior of log cabin homes tends to be traditional with earthy furniture and much wood grain pattern on the floor and walls. Natural elements such as stone and wood provide a great back drop for color. Due to the darkness of these materials it is good to use floor rugs, pillows and linens with bright colors such as the ones above.

Wall décor can include your own art which is simple and fun to do. It’s all about bringing nature inside. You’ll need three or four stretched blank canvases. Paint them all a base acrylic layer in a cream color. Press leaves and flowers in a heavy book and allow to rest several days to one week. When they are completely flat and dry, glue them to your canvases in a scattered way overlapping and turning to create a collage. Mod podge or white glue works well for this. After that dries apply several coats of polyurethane to seal. Then hang them in a series on the wall.

Log home interior design should be focused on elements found in nature and avoid shiny metals and intricate patterns. Patterns that are ideal are simple and look like they could have been hand woven. Saddle blankets are a good example of this; very simple in color with subtle stripes. Navajo blankets would work too.

Simple white table linens help to freshen a dark wood table. A cluster of beeswax candles form a classic centerpiece. For an extra special touch create a chain of clover or any other hardy wild flower. Weave the chain around the candles and create loops for napkin rings. You can make flower chains by cutting a handful of flowers with long stems. Cut a slit like a button hole in the bottom of each stem. Begin with one flower stem and slip another stem through the button hole in the first stem. Pull until the flower fits securely against the button hole. Repeat until you have a long chain.
