Ideas for a Teen Rocker Room

A teen rocker room may be just what your son or daughter is looking for. At this age, life is all about the music. Rock music is an integral part of some teenagers lives, so finding ideas for a rocker theme bedroom for a teen is a surefire way to create a space they will love. The ideas below use common household items and thrift store finds to turn any boring bedroom into a smashing success.

Guitars, Guitars and More Guitars

Today a rock star without a guitar simply is not seen. Most musicians not only sing, they compose their own songs and play their own guitars. There is no doubt that decorating a room with a variety of guitars is an expensive endeavor, but thrift stores frequently have old instruments for sale for a mere fraction of the cost.

If real instruments are just too expensive, paint electric guitars on the walls or cut them out of cardboard and paint them to create a mural. The more realistic the guitars look the more like a teen rocker room the effect will be. If the teen already has a guitar, make sure that it is a focal point in the room.

In the Spotlight

Create a raised, spotlighted stage for the teen to jam on. Some plywood, a saw, nails and black paint are all that are needed to construct a simple stage. When constructing it be sure that once it is done it will fit through the doorway to the teen's new room.

Hang spotlights from the ceiling to really make the area feel authentic. Mock scaffolding can also be added to enhance the look of the stage area. String small strands of white lights from the mock scaffolding for extra ambiance. The teen will surely enjoy rocking out in the spotlight and privacy of his own room.

Black and Neon

The quintessential color for rockers is black. Consider painting half of the wall black, one focal wall black or a thick black stripe around the room. Painting from a chair rail height down to the baseboard black and the top half of the room a dark blue or grey will insert some color into the room while still providing the needed black paint. Without the color black in the room, the feeling is more liable to be that of a jazz musician than a rocker.

For some funky lighting add neon. Neon signs or tube lights can create unusual lighting that the teen will love. Do not be afraid to ask the teen what he suggests for lighting or wall decor either. There may be an idea that he has that will completely transform the room.

Think outside the box when designing a teen rocker room theme for a teen. Look to their favorite musicians for inspiration and ideas. There may be signature songs or pieces that symbolize the rocker that the teen enjoys listening to the most. Take cues from concerts and pictures of concerts that can be found online so that the room has the look and feel desired. Most importantly though, do not forget to get input from the teen rocker himself.
