What's Traditional Home Decorating and Classic Interior Design all About?

Google

<<>>

Traditional home decorating has been popular throughout the years and it still is. It can also be labeled classic interior design. The feeling when you walk into a room can be described as inviting and slightly formal. You can get the feel of this classic a little better by imagining the fabrics, colors and design used by Eddie Bower or Liz Claiborne in the clothing lines.

Quite often you’ll find antique furniture pieces that fit right in with the classic design of the traditional room. However, it is not difficult to find new pieces of furniture in this style. A traditional leather sofa with soft curved lines in a rich chocolate color would fit perfectly into this classic interior design. Traditional furniture has gentle curves and sometimes displays intricate carvings.

Dark woodwork is a must. Chair rails, crown molding and wanes coating are also an example of classic design. Cherry and walnut are woods you will see often in this home decorating style.

This home decorating style combines rich dark colors in the upholstery and draperies and even in an occasional traditional area rug. An example of a traditional home decorating paint color combination is shown below.

Fabrics are usually mixed. Ginghams are paired with florals and stripes are paired with solids. Textures are used too velvet, leather or corduroy. A classic design concept is to hang a cornice above windows for that formal tailored appearance. Below is an example of a window treatment that fits this style.

In traditional home decorating, furniture and wall décor is often arranged in symmetry. A great deal of attention is given toward making sure each traditional accessory is placed properly and in balance to something across from it. For example, in furniture placement, you would likely find a leather sofa directly across from another leather sofa with a rectangular coffee table in between. On the wall centered perfectly above the sofas would be a large painting of a landscape.

However you decide to decorate you’re home, I’m sure you’ll agree that traditional home decorating is a graceful choice and will never go out of style.
