Think oceans, beaches and the sun – well that should be the kind of color schemes you opt for. Try using a neutral shade like white or cream first and then use mustard or sea-green to bring out these typical tropical colors. Tropical theme decorating is essentially all about using the right mix of colors. The wrong color can create a totally different ambience!

Curios and décor

You can use interesting display items to add an element of interest to your room. Think conch shells, or colorful corals or even marbles inside an opaque blue bowl! You can also add color coordinated pillows around the room to make it more inviting. Even an aquarium will do fabulously!

Pick the right flooring

Flooring also plays a great role in bringing out the best in your tropical theme decorating plan. You could use a sisal material rug on the floor. Preferably have a tiled floor instead of wood – as wooden floors are more reminiscent of hilly and cold regions. If using tiles, try choosing colors that go with the tropical theme. Get a paint chart and then let your imagination run wild.

The kind of furniture you use will greatly affect the look of tropical theme decorating. Try using dark colored furniture along with bright colored throws and afghans.
